Safety Tech Innovation Day
On August 26th, 2020, Plug and Play hosted a virtual event for innovative safety technology startups who are making headway in the workplace safety industry.
An Emerging and (Relatively) Untapped Market
The event showcased six startups, all within the safety tech industry. One main piece of advice every startup had was, “make something people are not only willing to wear, but also comfortable to wear.” Employees will not wear something that adds unwanted weight or discomfort to their work day.

The Safety Tech Startups
Kinetic:
In order to reduce workplace injuries, Kinetic has designed a wearable that detects strenuous or dangerous movements, and warns you if you come within six feet of someone, which helps fight COVID-19.
Oloid
Oloid has developed computer software and AI to improve workplace safety and security. Its program detects temperature and symptoms without human interaction, which improves safety and time of employees.
Verve
Verve has come up with a wearable that can detect improper posture, fatigue, and overexertion. This wearable has the ability to make boxes and anything weighted feel lighter to factory and warehouse workers.
Myant
Myant knits sensors and actuators into everyday textiles, giving them the ability to sense and react to the human body. This technology allows people to be proactive about their health and make better decisions.
Nanoz
A small sensor that is able to detect deadly gases and materials coming from smart phones and batteries, Nanoz sensor can be inserted into phones, watches, and other everyday devices.
Therma Scans
Therma Scans is an Ontario based company that manufactures thermal image screening technology to measure core body temperatures. They provide real-time, non-contact skin temperature measurement; scanning for anomalies that may indicate a fever.
