Barilla supports innovators in creating the future of joyful and sustainable food. The mission is to collaborate with makers in the food industry to catalyze the development of new sustainable food solutions.
Startups and top Barilla managers will co-develop an innovative plan to solve a challenge, helping participants grow their businesses in real-time. Each selected team will receive $10,000 to use during the program and may establish a long-lasting relationship with Barilla.

CO2Dry, a dutch company founded in 2013, developed a premium technology to dry ingredients for food products reducing costs and energy consumption.
Wattics, an Irish company founded by an Italian scientist with the aim of fighting climate change through energy analytics, allowing energy managers to control cost, forecast trends, verify payback and meet programs and directives
Inarix, a French computer vision and instant monitoring platform for farming based on artificial intelligence technology and image analysis
AllPlants, a vegan meal delivery service on a mission to promote a sustainable approach towards food industry and a healthy lifestyle.
For each category, one startup was selected
Exploring drying and baking technologies for pasta, bakery, and grains by-products to help improve process efficiency, reduce energy consumption, and preserve or enhance product quality (sensorial & nutritional features)
Forecasting consumption and energy withdrawal from the network and reducing energy consumption through an AI system
Exploring new systems and technologies for intercepting and preventing foreign species in cereals i.e. recognizing which weeds are developing in cereal fields and how widespread they are in different geographical areas and quantifying the seeds present in cereal grains at storage centers
Finding the best ideas to prepare a gastronomy pasta dish in an easy way for a convenient restaurant-like experience at home
For each category, one startup will be selected to access the program.
Once selected for Good Food Makers, startups will meet a designated Barilla team to identify main challenges and the areas that are most ripe for collaboration
Together the startup and Barilla will set goals for the upcoming eight weeks, brainstorm solutions, and make an action plan to execute together, including the use of the $10,000 grant
The startup will have Barilla’s pilot plant at their disposal to experiment and prototype on a large scale supply chain and in industrial conditions, and iterate with the Barilla team, based on desired outcomes.
Ongoing technical support, co-branded products, first corporate customers, and investment are all opportunities for the selected startup for future collaboration. At the end of the program, both parties will decide if they want to continue working together.
Startups will be mentored by a group of selected top-notch experts from Agronomy, Procurement, R&D, and Quality & Food safety teams to grow their business even further with the right technical skills needed
The eight-week program is just a starting point to keep on developing a widely marketable solution coherent with future strategies.
