A Q and A with Jojo Florez:

Q. Jojo, tell us, what do you like most about your work at Plug and Play?
A. I love the satisfaction of helping entrepreneurs who are striving to make the world a better, more fun place to be. Being among smart and passionate people makes me a better person. I’m also amazed by the cutting-edge innovations I see around me every day. I am both inspired and motivated by being part of the process that turns great ideas into global realities.

Q. How would you describe what you do?
A. I’m a startup freak. I’ve started over fifteen companies around the world, including Plug and Play. I’m now working on my sixteenth startup, which is in the Philippines. I’m currently a Board Member and VP for International Operations at American Liquid Packaging Systems (ALPS). At ALPS, I started ten bottled water companies across the globe, which expanded into over thirty cities. ALPS is also one of the leading distributors of plastic resin raw material in the world.

Most of the companies I’ve started have become market leaders and successful companies in their respective fields. More importantly, I have been instrumental in creating many successful careers with the people who helped me build these companies. To date, I still have employees telling me how happy and successful they’ve become. This brings me great joy.

Q. In your spare time, where can you be found?
A. I really enjoy playing golf, although my back doesn’t enjoy it nearly as much as I do. I’m passionate about sharing and giving back to my home country; the Philippines. I am an active officer of the Science and Technology Advisory Council in the Silicon Valley, a non-profit, strategic advisor to the Philippine government. I’m a big advocate of entrepreneurship in that country.

Q. Any final words?
A. I really think that Plug and Play is a unique place. I can’t really put a finger on it, but the whole place feels special. I just hope others experience the same feeling that I do.
