Repurposing Food
Upcycled Ingredients and Fighting Food Waste
Food waste has huge economic potential. According to the USDA, 31% of food is wasted at the consumer and retail level. If you add food loss at the farm level (crops that don’t fit certain requirements) we waste upwards of 40% of all food produced.
Improvements in refrigeration, packaging, and sanitization have had significant economic benefits by limiting microbiological decay and extending shelf-life. Despite these advancements, in the US food waste is valued at over $160 billion. There has got to be a better way!
Plug and Play invites you to join us as we dive deeper into our global food waste problem and explore ways in which upcycling ingredients help tackle this issue while also bringing tasty, healthy ingredients on the shelves. Industry leaders and successful entrepreneurs will come together to educate us on how large waste streams are being repurposed into new food products to ultimately build a more sustainable food system of the future.
